This is a simple tutorial on how to resize an image in Photoshop. The concept works basically the same for all image editors. Resizing an image is a basic skill anyone learning to build web site or anyone in graphic design must know.

Naturally this is a beginners guide so I did not touch on how to optimize images for the web. Good things to practice is to never save over your source file. In other tutorials I talk about creating a logical file structure where all your source files are kept isolated from other “web ready” files. Web ready simply refers to files that are optimized and ready to be uploaded to a web server for use in a web site.

If you’d like to use the best image editor around, get Photoshop to try it out.

Alternatively, you can download GIMP. It is a great free image editor alternative to Photoshop that you can use for basic to advanced image editing tasks.
